Recently hailed as “Voice of the Year” by Voice of San Diego, Nicole Capretz is the chief architect of San Diego’s groundbreaking Climate Action Plan, and... …the one constant voice behind the plan – and the one who most often told the public how it would work, why it would work and why it was necessary, was Nicole Capretz. The Executive Director of Climate Action Campaign, Capretz and her organization have been are being recognized nationally and internationally for their path breaking work in developing the plan.
San Diego’s Climate Action Plan, approved in late December, is historic in its ambition, scope and character. As The Guardian notes, San Diego is the largest US city to commit to using 100% renewable energy by 2035. Overall, through a wide variety of transportation, building, waste, water and other measures, the aim is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions 80 percent by 2050. Underscoring the entire plan is the fact that it is legally binding—and San Diego is among a small number of pioneering cities to make their climate plan binding. San Diego’s Climate Action Plan is among the most far-ranging and ambitious, encompassing guidelines for:
“We have an opportunity to improve the lives of every San Diegan in all of our neighborhoods. This plan reflects our duty to preserve our children’s future and hand down a San Diego that is cleaner than it was when we received it. San Diego’s next chapter starts here.” – Kevin L. We got the chance to meet her and talk a little about how it is to be a professional golfer and a Swede in San Diego. Emma was just 4 years old when she started playing golf with her family. Her brothers inspired her the most but the interest really took off when she began competing. What she likes about the sport is that it is an individual sport and her performance is all up to herself. She also likes that she can be outdoors and practice all day surrounded by beautiful nature, which is perfect here in San Diego. In high school, she was selected for the future girls national team (up and coming girls national team). It was encouraging to me. Those who were in the “real” girls national team could go to a lot of camps and competitions and it was a spur for me to become even better. Last Saturday September 26th SACC San Diego hosted the annual Swedish Crayfish Party. Let us tell you that it was a big success! More than fifty people attended our party at the House of Sweden in Balboa Park this past sunny Saturday. We ate Swedish traditional crayfish with salads and homemade pies, drank snaps, sang Swedish traditional songs and looked very fashionable in our red-orange party hats.Thank you all for coming and making this day memorable!
